Public key cryptography is currently the best way to provide security
services in global computer networks. Services, such as confidentiality,
authentication, data integrity, access control and nonrepudiation are
implemented using different asymmetric algorithms. The critical point of
public key cryptosystems is a proper authentication of public keys.
Verification of the binding between a user and his/her public key is
normally achieved by public key certificates.
A certificate consists of a collection of information, including user's
distinguished name and public key, and a digital signature of this information
produced with the private key of some well known trusted authority known as
certification authority (CA).
For the purpose of issuing certificates there
has to exist an established system of certification authorities that provide
users with these certificates.
Laboratory for Open Systems and
Networks at Jozef Stefan Institute is pleased
to announce the first Slovenian Policy Certification Authority SI-CA
with distinguished name
c=SI, o=IJS, ou=SI-CA
that is integrated into the European CA Infrastructure developed
during the 4th European Framework Programme
ICE-TEL Project.
Slovenian PCA is intended to sign public keys of CAs at organisations
and academic institutions in Slovenia.
